Growing up on the Connecticut shore gave me an appreciation for sea life, trees, leaves and the patterns found within nature. You will see many of these patterns reflected in the texture of my work: the veins in a leaf, the bark of a tree, the shell of a sea turtle, and the rambling stones of a rock wall. As my life changes, so does my work. When I learned to play the cello, my houses started to dance. When my son struggled with chronic illness, my houses reflected our symbiotic relationship. When my life took on the lightness of being, birds rested on my trees, ripples found their way onto my trays, and mushrooms grew happily in the crevices of sculptures.

I began my relationship with clay, through the need for a non-intellectual pursuit after obtaining my Masters in Public Administration. That was 25 years ago and clay has became an essential part of my life. I started by throwing and took many years of adult classes. I now teach adult pottery classes. As I started my own studio in my house, I explored hand building and have found that hand building is what I crave and it has fit best in the snippets of time allowed by motherhood. In life and in pottery, I have struggled with overcoming a need for perfection. Hand built pottery is never perfect and that is part of it’s beauty. I love to do my part in construction and creativity and then let the kiln perform it’s magic. Almost always, the result is perfectly imperfect!
